Points of Interest: Tamworth

Situated in the wonderful county of Staffordshire, Tamworth is defined by the River Tame which runs straight through the town. Boasting a modest population of 77,000, the area is home to an increasingly diverse range of industries including IT and logistics as well as materials trading.

The far-back history of Tamworth is a fascinating one. In the times of the Romans – specifically 43 -400 CE- the area was home to the Coritani British tribe. This then progressed into rulership by the Anglo-Saxons, archaeology of which is still uncovered to this day.

One of the most notable landmarks in Tamworth is the spectacular Tamworth Castle, a circular fortified castle structure that is remarkably intact. Fond with residents and informative to visitors, many have taken a step back in time to visit the grounds and the immaculately maintained interior of the castle. Many a child has taken part in the fun tradition of hunting for dragons amidst the rooms and halls of a true heritage building.

Those looking for something a little more modern than the medieval will find themselves satisfied with the area. The Middleton Lakes make for a wonderful day spent walking outdoors and other attractions such as the SnowDome and Drayton Manor Park offer a versatile range of options for day trips. There’s even a quintessential and lovingly maintained railway attraction in the form of Statfold Barn Railway museum!

Tamworth stands as a welcoming and unique place to visit, and an area we are excited to become a part of with our new branch opening.
